OVERVIEW

The Ultimate Go-Anywhere Welder

Take your welding capabilities to new heights with the Miller CST 282 Stick/TIG Welder. Weighing in at less than 35 pounds, this powerhouse is 20% lighter than its predecessor, making it the ideal companion for welders on the move. Don't let its small size fool you—the CST 282 packs a punch with 280 amps of output, capable of handling stick electrodes up to 3/16 inch and delivering smooth DC TIG welds on pipe and plate.

Plug in Anywhere with Auto-Line

Forget about checking voltage inputs or rewiring your machine. With Auto-Line™ Technology, the CST 282 is ready to work wherever you are. It automatically accepts any input power from 208V to 575V, whether single-phase or three-phase. This means you can move from the shop to the field and plug into whatever power is available without skipping a beat. It's the ultimate solution for contractors who face unpredictable power setups.

Precision Control for Perfect Welds

Achieving the perfect weld is easier than ever. The CST 282 features a simple, accurate interface with a digital meter and push-button controls, allowing you to preset and monitor your amperage with precision. The machine is designed to make you look good, with Adaptive Hot Start™ that prevents electrode sticking and Lift-Arc™ for clean TIG starts. Plus, with specific settings for 6010 and 7018 rods, you get a customized arc that feels just right for the job.

Built for the Job Site

Durability and versatility are built into every inch of the CST 282. The Universal Connector System gives you the freedom to swap between connector styles if needed, though this model comes ready with industry-standard Dinse connectors. The fan-on-demand cooling system keeps the machine running cool while reducing noise and energy consumption. Whether you are in mechanical contracting, maintenance, or high-purity processing, the Miller CST 282 is the reliable partner you need.

  1. Very versatile machine

I have had my machine for 4 years and absolutely love it. I retrofit boiler rooms in high rise buildings and the auto line tech allows me to basically tap into any piece of equpitments power supply and run my machine ( everything is between 200 to 600v) with out doing any set up on my machine at all. I also how well the specific rod settings for pipe work.

  2. Quality has slipped in 2024

Welder was used for 4 weeks and has now been in the repair shop for 6 weeks. Quality and Miller's ability to stand by their premium priced product seems to be down.

  4. This is a top quality machine. I would defiantly buy again

Pipefitters dream welder. Being able to switch between electrodes xx18 or xx10 and stiff and soft arc with a push of 1 button is very useful. The weld quality is unbelievable.

  6. I like it so much I am Looking at getting another.

Originally bought this CST282 for remote sites that require capping piles or welding shelters down and re-configuring antenna mounts. It is reasonably light weight and portable and I pack it, the 15' ground and 30' stinger plus all my home made plug adapters in a large pelican case. 50' power cord didnt fit. I love it as I never have the same power configurations at sites and have adapters and cheater cords made up for all kinds of single and 3 phase voltage configurations as well as a direct tie in cord and different brands of breakers. It is so quiet with 7018 and produces a good weld. I find myself pulling it back out at the shop when not traveling to use over the other welders as I like it so much. Now I am looking at getting another so im not without.

  8. Wonderful welder indestructible quality.

Actually a CST 280 not sure how the 282 came up. I have used the 280 for many years. This is a new in box replacement for the one I still have and it works fine.I am sending the older one to my brother for his farm to use. They work with reliable power supplies and produce a fine crisp arc. When using thin as boom lift welders it saves time and welding lead that is expensive. Thank you miller please bring back this welder or a new version of it.
