The Tweco 1040-1146 Classic No. 4 MIG Gun is a heavy-duty, air-cooled welding torch designed for high-amperage GMAW (MIG) and FCAW (Flux-Cored) applications. Renowned for its rugged construction and reliability, the Classic 4 series is the preferred choice for structural steel fabrication, heavy equipment manufacturing, and general industrial welding. This model features a Lincoln-style rear connection, ensuring direct compatibility with a wide range of Lincoln Electric wire feeders and power sources.

Technical Performance

Engineered for performance, the Classic 4 is rated at 400 Amps at 60% duty cycle with CO2 gas, and 200 Amps at 60% duty cycle with mixed gases. It utilizes a metal-jacketed conductor tube (gooseneck) that provides superior durability and heat dissipation compared to polymer-insulated necks. The 15-foot cable assembly features high-quality copper stranding and a durable outer jacket resistant to cuts, abrasion, and weld spatter, ensuring longevity in harsh shop environments.

Consumable System

This gun utilizes the industry-standard Tweco consumable platform:

• Contact Tips: 14 Series (available in various bore sizes for different wire diameters).
• Nozzles: 24 Series (slip-on or threaded options available).
• Diffusers: 54 Series gas diffusers.
• Liners: 44 Series liners, easily replaceable to suit wire sizes from 0.035" to 5/64".

Compatibility and Setup

The 1040-1146 comes ready to weld with a standard setup typically suited for 0.035" to 0.045" wire. The rear connection is a direct plug for Lincoln feeders (often referred to as the Lincoln "backend"). It is ideal for use with feeders such as the LN-7, LN-25, and other industrial Lincoln models requiring a standard gun connection. The gun's modular design allows for the replacement of the trigger, handle, cable, and gooseneck individually, maximizing the service life of the asset.
