The Walter 01M620 SST+ Prentice Drill is your solution for drilling massive 1-1/2 inch holes using your standard heavy-duty handheld drill or shop press. The "Prentice" style means the shank is turned down to 1/2 inch, fitting directly into standard chucks. Walter has added three flat sides to this shank, ensuring that when the bit bites into the metal, the chuck jaws hold tight and the bit doesn't spin inside the drill, giving you maximum torque transfer.

This isn't just a standard carbon steel bit; it is made from a tough cobalt blend designed specifically to handle the heat generated when drilling stainless steel and other hard metals. If you work with 304 or 316 stainless, you know how quickly a cheap bit burns up. The SST+ formula resists that heat, keeping the cutting edge sharp longer.
