OVERVIEW

Reach Further with Smooth Control

Every welder knows the frustration of trying to clean up a weld or deburr a hole that is just out of reach. The Walter Allsteel™ SG-1 Carbide Burr with a 6-inch extended shank is the solution to those hard-to-access headaches. Whether you are cleaning up inside a pipe, smoothing out a deep corner in a fabrication, or porting a manifold, the extra length gives you the access you need without forcing you to jam your die grinder into tight spots.

But reach isn't the only thing this burr offers. It features Walter's premium Double Cut design. If you've ever had a burr "walk" or jump all over the metal, you know why this matters. The double cut pattern creates smaller chips and stabilizes the tool, giving you smooth, predictable control. You can hog out material quickly without fighting the tool, leaving a finish that is often smooth enough to skip the sanding stage.

Designed specifically for steel and stainless steel, this burr doesn't dull instantly like cheap alternatives. It bites clean and stays sharp, saving you money on replacements and time on the job. The Pointed Tree (SG-1) shape is incredibly versatile, allowing you to grind flat surfaces with the side or dig into tight V-grooves with the nose. Add this extended-reach tool to your kit and stop struggling with standard-length bits in deep cavities.

FAQ

Double Cut burrs feature cross-cut flutes that produce smaller chips for easier disposal and provide better operator control by reducing tool chatter and pulling.

It is not recommended. The Allsteel design is optimized for ferrous metals. On soft non-ferrous metals like aluminum, the flutes may clog (load up). Use a dedicated non-ferrous (Alu) burr instead.

For a standard 1/4" to 1/2" head diameter carbide burr, speeds typically range between 15,000 and 25,000 RPM. However, with an extended 6" shank, it is crucial to reduce speed or ensure the burr is in contact with the work before spinning up to prevent shank bending due to runout.

SG-1 refers to a Pointed Tree shape. It is versatile for both surface grinding using the side of the burr and reaching into tight corners or grooves with the pointed tip.

The 6-inch specification typically refers to the length of the steel shank. The total length of the tool includes the carbide head.

Concentricity ensures the tool spins perfectly true. On an extended 6-inch tool, even minor wobble (runout) is amplified, which can cause dangerous vibration, poor finish, or tool failure.

While it fits physically, standard drills usually spin too slowly (under 2,000 RPM) to be effective. Carbide burrs require high-speed die grinders to cut properly and avoid chipping.

Always wear impact-resistant eye protection (safety glasses and face shield), hearing protection, and gloves. Long sleeves are recommended to protect against hot, sharp metal chips.
