OVERVIEW

Reliable Weld Prep and Cleanup

For professional welders, time spent grinding and prepping is time not spent welding. The Walter SG-5 Double Cut Carbide Burr is built to speed up your workflow without sacrificing control. When you are cleaning up a root pass, opening up a crack for repair, or smoothing out a tight corner in a fabrication, you need a burr that bites into the metal without skipping or jumping. The tungsten carbide construction of this burr ensures it eats through steel and stainless steel with ease.

The Double Cut (DC) geometry is a welder's best friend. Unlike single-cut burrs that can pull the tool forward aggressively, the cross-cut diamond pattern of this Walter burr provides excellent operator control. It produces small, manageable chips instead of long, sharp needles, keeping your workspace cleaner and safer. The SG-5 Pointed Tree shape is particularly useful for reaching into V-grooves or cleaning up inside corners where a grinding wheel simply won't fit.

Durability is key in the shop. This burr resists heat buildup and maintains its sharp cutting edges even under heavy pressure. It is compatible with standard pneumatic or electric die grinders. Use it to prep joints, remove porosity, or blend welds in hard-to-reach areas. With Walter's reputation for quality, you can trust this tool to perform consistently, shift after shift.

FAQ

Single cut burrs have one set of flutes and produce long chips, often used for general removal. Double Cut (like this product) has cross flutes creating a diamond pattern, which produces smaller chips, allows for faster removal, and provides a smoother finish with better operator control.

It is designed primarily for ferrous metals, including steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys. It is effective for heavy stock removal and finishing on these hard materials.

This carbide burr is designed for use with pneumatic or electric die grinders. Ensure your tool's collet size matches the burr's shank diameter.

The SG-5 is a 'Pointed Tree' shape. Its tapered point allows it to reach into tight angles, corners, and contours that cylindrical or ball-shaped burrs cannot access.

Tungsten carbide is significantly harder and more heat-resistant than High-Speed Steel (HSS). It lasts much longer, holds its cutting edge better, and can run at higher speeds for more efficient work.

Always wear ANSI-rated safety glasses or a face shield, hearing protection, and gloves. Carbide burrs spin at high speeds and throw hot metal chips.

While it can cut aluminum, Double Cut burrs may clog (load up) with soft aluminum. For aluminum, an 'Aluminum Cut' (Alu-Cut) burr with wider flutes is recommended to prevent clogging.

Walter burrs are manufactured for precise concentricity to minimize vibration. If you experience vibration, check your die grinder's collet for wear or ensure the burr is inserted fully.
