OVERVIEW

Rip Through Steel with Walter ALLSTEEL™ 40 Grit

When you have heavy weld beads to knock down or rough steel edges to deburr, you need an abrasive that works as hard as you do. The Walter ALLSTEEL™ 15W454 is a 4-1/2" x 7/8" flap disc built for the serious fabricator. This isn't your average hardware store disc; it features a heavy-duty 40 grit zirconia alumina grain blend that bites into steel and doesn't let go. Whether you are grinding down a multi-pass fillet weld or prepping a surface for painting, the coarse 40 grit texture provides the aggressive removal rate needed to get the job done fast.

We all know the frustration of throwing away a flap disc that still has plenty of abrasive left in the center just because the outer edge is worn. Walter solved this problem with their Eco-Trim™ backing. When the flaps wear down, you don't toss the disc—you trim the backing. This exposes fresh abrasive that would otherwise go to waste, effectively giving you three discs in one. It’s a smart way to cut your consumables budget without sacrificing performance. The Type 27 flat shape is perfect for working at lower angles (0° to 15°), giving you excellent control when blending on flat surfaces or getting into tight corners.

Safety and comfort are just as important as speed. The ALLSTEEL™ disc is designed to run smoothly on your angle grinder, minimizing vibration and the "chatter" that can leave uneven marks on your workpiece. The self-sharpening grains mean you don't have to lean your entire body weight into the grinder to get it to cut, saving your arms and back after a long shift. If you work primarily with steel and want a disc that lasts longer and cuts cooler, the Walter 15W454 is the tool for your shop.

Application Tips

  • Heavy Stock Removal: Use this 40 grit disc for the initial grind on heavy welds.
  • Trimming the Backing: Use a piece of scrap metal to safely trim the Eco-Trim™ backing when the flaps wear down.
  • Angle: Keep your grinder between 0 and 15 degrees for the best finish with this Type 27 disc.

FAQ

The 15W454 ALLSTEEL™ flap disc is specifically designed for use on steel, providing high removal rates and durability on ferrous metals.

This disc has a grit rating of 40, which is a coarse grit suitable for heavy stock removal and grinding down large welds.

Eco-Trim™ is a specialized trimmable backing plate that allows you to cut away the outer edge of the plastic backing as the abrasive wears, exposing fresh grit and extending the disc's life up to 3 times.

This disc is 4-1/2 inches in diameter with a 7/8 inch arbor, making it compatible with standard 4-1/2" and 5" angle grinders.

This is a Type 27 flap disc, which has a flat profile. It is best used at flat angles (0-15 degrees) for smooth blending and finishing.

While it can physically grind aluminum, it is optimized for steel. For aluminum, a disc specifically designed to prevent loading (clogging) is recommended.

These discs are typically sold in packages of 10.

The Walter 15W454 ALLSTEEL™ flap disc is manufactured in Germany.
