OVERVIEW

Aggressive Cutting for Tough Welds

When you are under the hood and need to prep a joint or clean up a heavy weld, you want a flap disc that bites hard and lasts long. The Walter ALLSTEEL™ 5-inch Flap Disc (15W504) is built for exactly that. With a coarse 40 grit, this disc is your go-to for hogging off metal. Whether you are grinding down a heavy bead, beveling a plate for a root pass, or removing deep rust, the zirconia alumina grains dig in and remove steel fast, saving you time on every job.

One of the most frustrating things about cheap flap discs is how quickly they glaze over or stop cutting. The ALLSTEEL™ is designed to self-sharpen. As you grind, the grains micro-fracture to reveal new, sharp cutting points. This means you don't have to lean on the grinder with all your weight to get it to cut—let the disc do the work. This significantly reduces arm fatigue, especially when you are grinding out of position or overhead for extended periods.

The Type 27 flat shape is perfect for smoothing out long welds and getting a nice, flat finish without gouging the base metal. Plus, Walter included a trimmable backing on this disc. We've all thrown away flap discs that still had good abrasive in the center because the edge was worn out. With this disc, you can trim the plastic backing to expose that fresh abrasive, getting way more mileage out of a single disc. It’s a smart design that saves you trips to the tool locker and keeps you welding longer.

FAQ

It is designed primarily for heavy stock removal and blending on steel surfaces.

Yes, the backing is designed to be trimmable to expose unused abrasive, extending the life of the disc.

It utilizes a special zirconia alumina abrasive grain blend optimized for steel.

40 grit is coarse and aggressive, best for removing material quickly. For a smooth finish, you would typically follow up with a finer grit like 60 or 80.

The arbor size is 7/8 inch, compatible with standard 5-inch angle grinders.

Walter discs are known for good balance, and the self-sharpening grain requires less pressure, which helps reduce vibration and fatigue.

Type 27 discs are flat, making them ideal for blending and finishing on flat surfaces and edges, typically held at a shallow angle.

While it can cut stainless, the ALLSTEEL line is optimized for carbon steel. For stainless, Walter's Enduro-Flex Stainless series is usually recommended.
