OVERVIEW

Aggressive Bite for Tough Welds

Welders know that surface preparation and finishing are just as critical as laying the bead itself. The Pferd Type 29 Zirconia Flap Disc (SKU 62782) is built to make that part of the job faster and easier. With a 60 grit Zirconia Alumina abrasive, this disc provides the perfect middle ground between heavy stock removal and smooth blending. It bites hard into the metal to level welds quickly but leaves a refined scratch pattern that is easy to finish.

The Type 29 conical shape is a favorite among pipe fitters and fabricators because it allows you to attack the work at a steeper angle. This is ideal for grinding out fillets, contouring edges, and smoothing down heavy weld seams without gouging the workpiece. Because it is designed for high-torque grinders (8.5 Amps and up), you can lean into the work without worrying about the disc glazing over or stopping. It cuts cool, which is essential when working on Stainless Steel to prevent heat discoloration and warping.

Compatible with standard 4-1/2 inch angle grinders using a 7/8 inch arbor, this Pferd flap disc is a reliable workhorse for your tool bag. Whether you are cleaning up mild steel structural beams or finishing stainless railings, the Zirconia grain stays sharp longer than standard aluminum oxide discs. Stop wasting time changing out worn-out cheap discs and switch to a flap disc that keeps up with your grind.

FAQ

Type 27 discs are flat and best for blending and finishing on flat surfaces. Type 29 discs, like this Pferd model, are conical (angled), making them better for aggressive stock removal and contour work.

While Zirconia Alumina can cut aluminum, it is primarily designed for Steel and Stainless Steel. For aluminum, a disc with a specialized coating to prevent loading (clogging) is recommended.

It indicates that this abrasive is optimized for high-torque, high-power angle grinders. Using it on a weak grinder may result in poor cutting performance because the grain won't fracture and self-sharpen properly.

This disc has a standard 7/8-inch arbor hole, which fits most 4-1/2 inch and 5-inch angle grinders.

60 grit is a medium-coarse grit. It is excellent for removing material and blending welds but will leave visible scratch marks. For a polished finish, you would follow up with 80 or 120 grit.

Packaging quantities can vary, but industrial flap discs are typically sold individually or in boxes of 10. Please check the specific quantity selector on the product page.

It is formulated for use on Steel and Stainless Steel (INOX).
