OVERVIEW

Don't Take Chances with Gas Safety

Welding and cutting with oxy-fuel is a daily task for many fabricators, but the risks of flashbacks are real and can be deadly. The Western Enterprises FA-230P Flashback Arrestor is your essential insurance policy against accidents. Designed to screw directly onto your fuel gas regulator (that's your Acetylene, Propane, or Chemtane tank), this little brass device does two huge jobs. First, it has a built-in check valve that stops gas from flowing the wrong way. This means if your tip gets clogged or you have unequal pressures, oxygen can't sneak back into your fuel hose and create an explosive mix.

Second, and most importantly, it stops fire. If a flashback happens—where the flame pops and tries to race back up the hose—the FA-230P kills the flame before it can reach your regulator or tank. It uses a special internal filter that smothers the fire instantly. Installing it is as easy as connecting a hose; it has standard Left-Hand threads that fit right onto your regulator, and then your hose screws into the arrestor. It's a simple "plug-and-play" upgrade that adds a massive layer of safety to your rig without changing how you work.

One of the biggest worries welders have with adding safety gear is losing power. You don't want to starve your torch and get a bad cut. The FA-230P is built for high flow. You can cut steel up to 10 inches thick without noticing a drop in pressure or performance. It works with Acetylene (up to 15 PSI) and other fuel gases (up to 22 PSI). Whether you are in a garage, a fab shop, or out on a rig, protecting your cylinders is protecting your life. Don't rely on luck; rely on Western Enterprises hardware to keep the flame at the tip of the torch where it belongs.

Why Mount at the Regulator?

You might see arrestors that go on the torch handle and others that go on the regulator. This model is for the regulator. The advantage here is that it protects the most expensive and dangerous part of your setup: the tanks. If a hose gets cut or burns through, a regulator-mounted arrestor stops the fire from entering the cylinder. It is a smart investment for any serious metalworker using oxy-fuel equipment.

FAQ

This model (FA-230P) mounts to the regulator to protect the cylinder and regulator from flashbacks entering from the hose. Torch-mounted arrestors protect the hose from flashbacks originating at the tip.

No. The FA-230P is designed specifically for Fuel Gas. It has Left-Hand threads (CGA 023) which will not fit Oxygen fittings, and the internal materials are compatible with fuels, not high-pressure oxygen.

The FA-230P is designed for high-flow applications and supports cutting capacities up to 10 inches. However, adding any device to the line adds slight resistance, so check your pressure settings if using very long hoses.

These units do not typically have a visual indicator. If a flashback occurs, the unit is designed to extinguish it. If flow is completely blocked afterwards, the unit may have been damaged by a severe flashback and should be replaced.

It features standard "B" size 9/16"-18 Left Hand (LH) threads, which is the industry standard for fuel gas fittings in North America.

Generally, yes, provided the flashback was minor and did not damage the internal sintering or check valve. However, after any flashback event, safety equipment should be tested or replaced to ensure continued protection.

The maximum operating pressure is 15 PSIG for Acetylene and 22 PSIG for other fuel gases like Propane or Natural Gas.

No, the FA-230P has a built-in internal check valve (reverse flow valve) in addition to the flashback arrestor, providing dual protection.
