OVERVIEW

Keep Your Wire Running Smoothly

There is nothing more frustrating than a wire feeder that slips, stutters, or birdnests right in the middle of a bead. Often, the culprit isn't the liner or the tip—it's a worn-out drive roll. The Tweco 375980-030 Drive Roll Kit is the direct replacement part you need to get your Thermal Arc or Tweco Fabricator welder running like new again. If you are running solid MIG wire, this V-Groove roll is exactly what the doctor ordered.

This roll is a two-in-one deal. It’s reversible, meaning you get a slot for .035" wire on one side and .045" wire on the other. This covers the vast majority of general fabrication jobs, from auto body repairs to heavy structural steel brackets. You don't need to keep track of two separate tiny wheels in your toolbox; just flip this one over when you decide to bump up your wire size. It’s made from tough hardened steel, so it bites into the wire just enough to push it through the liner without crushing it or creating metal shavings that clog your liner.

Why V-Groove? If you use knurled rollers on solid wire, you're going to chew up the copper coating and create drag in the liner. If you use U-groove, you might not get enough traction on steel wire. V-Groove is the sweet spot for solid mild steel and stainless wire. It cradles the round wire perfectly, giving you consistent traction.

Installation is a breeze. Pop the old one off, check the side of this roll for the size stamping, and slide it on with the size you want to use facing the correct direction (usually the size you are using is stamped on the side facing in, but check your manual to be sure). Tighten it down, set your tension, and you are ready to burn wire. Don't let a cheap worn-out part ruin your welds—grab a fresh drive roll and keep your arc steady.

FAQ

This V-Groove drive roll is designed specifically for solid wires, such as mild steel (ER70S-6) and stainless steel. It is not recommended for flux-cored or aluminum wires.

This is a dual-groove reversible roll that supports 0.035-inch (0.9mm) and 0.045-inch (1.2mm) wire diameters.

Technically you can, but it is not ideal. Flux-cored wire is softer and usually requires Knurled drive rolls (with teeth) to grab the wire without crushing it. V-Groove rolls may slip on flux-cored wire if tension is too loose, or crush it if too tight.

It is compatible with Tweco and Thermal Arc Fabricator series multi-process welders, such as the Fabricator 181i, 211i, and 252i.

The roll is reversible. Simply remove the retaining screw or knob, slide the roll off, flip it over so the groove for the desired wire size is aligned with the wire path, and reinstall.

Slippage can be caused by incorrect tension settings, a clogged liner, a worn contact tip, or using the wrong groove size for the wire diameter. Ensure your tension is set correctly—just tight enough to feed without slipping when blocked at the tip.

No. Aluminum wire is soft and requires U-Groove drive rolls to prevent deformation and shaving. Using V-Groove rolls on aluminum often leads to feeding issues.

The drive roll is machined from hardened steel to resist wear from the continuous friction of the welding wire.
