OVERVIEW

Stop Fighting Your Aluminum Wire Feed

If you are running a Python push-pull gun, you know that aluminum welding can be temperamental. One minute you are laying down perfect dimes, and the next, the wire burns back into the tip, ruining your flow and forcing you to stop and swap out parts. The Lincoln Electric KP2217-4B1 contact tip is your first line of defense against these frustrations when running 3/64" 4043 wire. Unlike generic tips that might be drilled for steel, these heavy-duty tips are designed with the specific properties of aluminum in mind. They have a slightly larger bore (0.06") which allows the soft 4043 wire to slide through smoothly even when it gets hot and expands.

We know that 4043 wire is softer than 5356 and tends to be more difficult to feed. Using the KP2217-4B1 helps prevent the wire from dragging or sticking inside the tip, which is the number one cause of an unstable arc and erratic feeding. When your contact tip allows for smooth delivery, you get better arc starts and less spatter. Plus, these are heavy-duty tips, meaning they have more mass to dissipate heat. This keeps the tip cooler for longer, preventing the copper from softening and the hole from keyholing out prematurely.

This pack comes with 25 tips, which is exactly what a busy welder needs. When you are welding aluminum, you should be changing your tip at the first sign of wear or arc wandering. Trying to squeeze extra life out of a worn tip usually results in a bad weld or a bird's nest in the feeder. With a 25-pack on hand, you can swap them out as needed without worrying about running dry, keeping your Python gun running smooth and your welds looking professional.

FAQ

This contact tip is designed for 3/64 inch (1.2 mm) welding wire.

While it fits 3/64" wire, it is specifically optimized for 4043 aluminum alloy due to its specific ID clearance.

It is designed for use with Lincoln Electric Python Series MIG Guns, specifically the 400A standard models.

The slightly larger ID accommodates the thermal expansion of soft aluminum wire (like 4043) to prevent seizing and burnback.

The KP2217-4B1 is sold as a package of 25 contact tips.

It is physically possible if the size matches, but it is not recommended. The clearance is designed for aluminum; using it on steel may result in poor electrical contact and arc wandering.

Yes, using the correct tip geometry for aluminum allows for smoother feeding, which significantly reduces the chance of burnback.

This is a Heavy Duty contact tip, designed to withstand higher heat and amperage applications.
