The Miller 079614 is a specialized drive roll kit designed to facilitate the smooth feeding of 1/16-inch (1.6 mm) aluminum welding wire. In MIG welding applications involving aluminum, standard V-groove or knurled rollers can distort the soft wire, leading to feeding interruptions and poor weld quality. This kit utilizes a precision-machined U-Groove profile, which maximizes surface contact area to drive the wire effectively while maintaining its round shape.
This set includes two drive rolls, making it suitable for standard 2-roll wire feed assemblies. It is a direct fit for a wide array of Miller power sources and wire feeders, including the Millermatic 200, 210, 250, 251, and 252, as well as the Vintage model. It also fits standalone industrial feeders such as the S-22A, S-24A, S-32S, S-52A, S-54A, and the 22A/24A series. Proper drive roll selection is critical for achieving X-ray quality welds and maintaining high deposition rates in aluminum fabrication.
Installation is straightforward and requires no special tools. The rolls are keyed to fit the drive shafts of compatible Miller feeders securely. When setting tension for aluminum, it is recommended to use the minimum tension necessary to feed the wire to prevent crushing. These rolls are an essential component for any shop transitioning a steel setup to an aluminum setup or replacing worn consumables on a dedicated aluminum machine.
