The Bernard L3A-15 Universal Conventional Liner is the standard replacement for most 15-foot Bernard MIG guns running .035" or .045" wire. Whether you are running an older Q-Gun or T-Gun, or one of the newer BTB series handles, this liner is designed to drop right in and get you back to welding. It is built from high-carbon music wire, which gives it the stiffness needed to push wire through twisted cables without collapsing or adding unnecessary drag.
One of the biggest headaches in the shop is grabbing the wrong part from the bin. Bernard has addressed this with their Universal Liner design. Instead of hunting for a specific liner for a Q-Gun and a different one for a T-Gun, the L3A-15 fits them all. It also features a color-coded shrink wrap at the back end, so you can tell at a glance if you are holding a liner for .045" wire or something else. This simple feature saves time during changeovers and prevents the frustration of jamming .045" wire into a .035" liner.
Installing the L3A-15 is straightforward. It is designed for 15-foot cable assemblies but can be trimmed to fit shorter cables if necessary. When installing, ensure you lay the gun cable out straight to get an accurate measurement before trimming the excess liner at the front end. A sharp pair of liner cutters is recommended to ensure no burrs obstruct the wire path. Regular replacement of your liner is one of the cheapest ways to maintain high weld quality. If you feel drag while pushing wire by hand, or if you see copper dust building up at the drive rolls, it is time to swap in a fresh L3A-15.
