OVERVIEW

Technical Overview: CK 3C332GS Wedge Collet

The CK Worldwide 3C332GS is a specialized wedge collet designed for use with 3 Series TIG torches equipped with the CK Gas Saver™ front-end system. This product is sized for 3/32" (2.4mm) tungsten electrodes and is compatible with industry-standard torch bodies including the WP-17, WP-18, and WP-26, as well as CK Worldwide's CK150, CK210, CK300, CK510, and similar models from Weldcraft, Lincoln, and Profax.

Mechanical Design and Conductivity

Unlike standard split collets that rely on deformation to grip the electrode, the wedge collet utilizes a sloped interface to wedge the tungsten against the collet body wall. This design offers two critical technical advantages:

  • Elimination of Torsion: The wedge action prevents the transmission of torque to the tungsten during back cap tightening. This preserves the precise orientation of the electrode and prevents the "spiraling" failure mode common in split collets.
  • Improved Current Transfer: By creating a solid line of contact along the length of the collet body, the wedge design maximizes thermal and electrical conductivity. This reduces resistance heating at the collet, leading to cooler operation and extended consumable life.

System Compatibility

This specific SKU (3C332GS) is shortened and profiled to fit the Gas Saver heat shield and collet body assembly. It is not intended for use with standard collet bodies or standard gas lens collet bodies (which would use the standard 3C332 wedge collet). The Gas Saver system is favored for its ability to provide laminar gas flow and improved visibility, and the 3C332GS is the requisite internal component for holding 3/32" tungsten in that configuration.

Specifications

Each package contains five (5) collets. The collets are machined from high-grade copper alloy to ensure consistent dimensional tolerances and resistance to oxidation. They are rated for the full amperage capacity of 3 Series torches, making them suitable for heavy-duty AC and DC TIG welding applications.

FAQ

A wedge collet does not twist the tungsten when tightened and provides better electrical contact, lasting up to 10 times longer than a standard split collet.

No, the 'GS' designation means this collet is designed specifically for the CK Gas Saver™ system. For standard collet bodies, you would typically use the 3C332 (non-GS) wedge collet.

This collet is sized for 3/32 inch (2.4mm) tungsten electrodes.

This product is sold as a package of 5 collets.

It fits 3 Series torches (17, 18, 26, CK150, CK210, CK300, etc.) when they are equipped with the Gas Saver front-end kit.

Yes, this collet is part of the system used with CK's clear Pyrex Gas Saver cups.

While the collet itself holds the tungsten, the wedge design is often more compact and allows for better gas flow dynamics when paired with the appropriate Gas Saver collet body.

Yes, as long as the torch is a 3 Series (17, 18, 26 style) and you are using the CK Gas Saver conversion kit.
