This insulator is designed to virtually eliminate turbulence in the shielding gas stream as it emerges from the nozzle. Why does this matter? A smooth, laminar gas flow means you can extend your tungsten electrode farther beyond the end of the cup while still maintaining adequate shielding coverage.
