OVERVIEW

Industrial Grade 2% Ceriated Tungsten Electrodes

The CK Worldwide T187GC2 is a pack of ten 1/8" (3.2mm) x 7" (175mm) 2% Ceriated Tungsten Electrodes, color-coded Grey. Manufactured to meet AWS EWCe-2 and ISO WC20 classifications, these electrodes are composed of 97.3% Tungsten and 1.8-2.2% Cerium Oxide. They are the preferred choice for industrial applications requiring a non-radioactive electrode that mimics the performance characteristics of Thoriated tungsten while offering distinct advantages in low-amperage and AC scenarios.

These electrodes are renowned for their excellent arc stability and low erosion rates. The presence of Cerium Oxide facilitates easier arc starting and allows the electrode to maintain a sharp point longer than pure tungsten, even at lower current settings. This makes the T187GC2 particularly effective for orbital tube welding, pipe fabrication, and thin-gauge sheet metal work where precision is critical. While primarily optimized for DC welding of carbon and stainless steels, nickel alloys, and titanium, Ceriated tungsten also performs proficiently in AC welding of aluminum and magnesium alloys, offering a versatile solution for multi-process shops.

Designed for compatibility with modern welding technology, these electrodes excel when used with inverter-based constant current power sources, though they remain effective with traditional transformer machines. The 1/8" diameter is robust enough for medium-to-heavy duty applications while still benefiting from the superior low-end control provided by the cerium content. By switching to CK Worldwide's Ceriated tungsten, facilities can eliminate the safety compliance burdens associated with radioactive thoria while maintaining high-quality weld outputs.

FAQ

Ceriated tungsten (Grey) is non-radioactive, whereas Thoriated tungsten (Red) contains radioactive thorium. Ceriated tungsten offers similar or better arc starting capabilities, especially at low amperages, and is a safer alternative for the welder.

Yes, 2% Ceriated tungsten works well for aluminum welding in AC mode. It provides good arc stability and can handle the alternating current, although it is often preferred for DC applications.

A 1/8" (3.2mm) Ceriated tungsten electrode is generally rated for approximately 150-270 amps on DCEN (Direct Current Electrode Negative) and roughly 100-180 amps on AC, depending on the balance settings and gas coverage.

Yes, CK Worldwide 2% Ceriated tungsten is excellent for use with inverter-based power sources as well as transformer-based machines.

Unlike Pure tungsten, Ceriated tungsten should generally be ground to a point or a truncated point for both DC and AC welding, especially when using an inverter machine with adjustable frequency and balance.

This package (SKU T187GC2) contains 10 individual tungsten electrodes.

You can weld a wide range of materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, titanium, and copper alloys. It is also suitable for aluminum and magnesium.

The AWS classification for 2% Ceriated tungsten is EWCe-2. It also meets the ISO classification WC20.
