OVERVIEW

Master Aluminum TIG Welding with White Zirconiated Tungsten

Take your aluminum welding projects to the next level with the T332X7ZIR Zirconiated Tungsten. If you are tired of pure tungsten spitting or struggling to hold a shape under high heat, the "White" tungsten is your solution. Designed specifically for AC TIG welding, this 3/32" electrode is the go-to choice for welders who demand a stable, smooth arc and a clean puddle when working with aluminum and magnesium.

The magic of zirconiated tungsten lies in its ability to form and hold a perfect ball at the tip. In AC welding, this balled shape spreads the arc heat over a wider area, providing the cleaning action needed to blast away oxide layers while creating a smooth, aesthetically pleasing bead. Unlike pure tungsten, which can degrade and contaminate your weld at higher amps, zirconiated electrodes stand up to the heat. They resist splitting and spitting, keeping your weld puddle clean and your rework time to a minimum.

These 7-inch electrodes are compatible with standard TIG torches and collets. The 3/32" size is the "workhorse" diameter, perfect for a wide range of amperages typically used on aluminum ranging from sheet metal to heavier plate. While they are not recommended for DC welding, their performance on AC is unmatched in this class. Whether you are building a custom intake manifold, repairing an aluminum boat hull, or practicing your "stack of dimes," these electrodes provide the consistency you need to lay down perfect welds every time.

Why Welders Choose Zirconiated:

  • Perfect Balling: Forms a clean, stable ball end easily for optimal AC performance.
  • High Heat Tolerance: Won't melt away or spit as easily as green pure tungsten.
  • Clean Welds: Minimizes tungsten inclusions for stronger, better-looking joints.
  • Easy Identification: Color-coded white to prevent mix-ups in your rod storage.

FAQ

White Zirconiated tungsten handles higher amperage and resists contamination better than Green Pure tungsten, while still retaining the ability to ball up effectively for AC welding.

It is not recommended. Zirconiated tungsten is designed for AC welding. For DC welding on steel, Thoriated (Red) or Lanthanated (Blue/Gold) electrodes are superior choices.

For AC welding, a balled tip is desired. You can achieve this by using a DCEP setting briefly on a piece of scrap copper to form the ball, or allowing the AC arc to naturally form the ball during use.

No, Zirconiated tungsten is not radioactive. It is a safe alternative to Thoriated tungsten for AC applications.

A 3/32" Zirconiated electrode typically operates best between 150 and 250 Amps on AC, depending on the machine's balance settings and the gas cup size.

The White color code is the AWS and ISO standard identification for Zirconiated Tungsten (EWZr-1) to distinguish it from other types like Pure (Green) or Thoriated (Red).
