OVERVIEW

Smooth Feeding for Frustration-Free Aluminum Welding

Welding aluminum can be a test of patience, especially when dealing with wire feeding issues. The Lincoln Electric SuperGlaze 4043 Aluminum MIG Wire is engineered to solve exactly that problem. Featuring a proprietary manufacturing process that creates an ultra-smooth surface finish, SuperGlaze wire glides through your MIG gun liner with minimal resistance. This superior feedability means you spend less time clearing bird-nests and fixing jammed drive rolls, and more time laying down high-quality welds. For welders using push-pull guns or standard spool guns, the consistency of SuperGlaze 4043 ensures a stable arc and precise wire placement every time you pull the trigger.

This 3/64" diameter wire is an ER4043 alloy, making it the go-to choice for welding 6000-series aluminum, such as the ubiquitous 6061. The 5% silicon content gives the puddle excellent fluidity and wetting action, allowing the bead to flow out smoothly and tie into the base metal without undercutting. It also provides a lower melting point than 5356 wire, which helps minimize burn-through on thinner sections while maximizing penetration on thicker joints. The resulting welds are aesthetically pleasing, with a bright, shiny appearance that often requires little to no post-weld grinding or finishing.

Packaged on a 20 lb spool, this product is ideal for production environments and busy fabrication shops. It is specifically formulated for automotive components, bicycle frames, and general aluminum repair work where 6XXX series base metals are used. While it is not recommended for anodizing applications where color match is critical (it tends to turn gray), its mechanical performance and ease of use make it a favorite among professional welders. Pair this wire with 100% Argon gas and DC+ polarity to experience the difference a premium consumable makes in your aluminum welding projects.

Why Choose SuperGlaze 4043?

  • Eliminate Feeding Issues: Designed to prevent shaving and clogging in the liner.
  • Great Looking Welds: Produces smooth, shiny beads with excellent wetting.
  • Forgiving Arc: The silicon alloy stabilizes the arc and reduces spatter.
  • Industry Standard: The preferred choice for welding 6061 and other heat-treatable alloys.

FAQ

It is excellent for welding 6XXX series alloys (like 6061) and most casting alloys, as well as other heat-treatable base materials.

For best results, use 100% Argon or an Argon/Helium mixture. Carbon dioxide (CO2) should never be used with aluminum.

It is generally not recommended to use 4043 on 5XXX series alloys (especially those with high magnesium) due to potential reduction in ductility and corrosion resistance. ER5356 is usually preferred for 5XXX series.

This specific product (ED029234) has a diameter of 3/64 inch (approximately 0.047 inches or 1.2 mm).

SuperGlaze features a proprietary surface finish that is ultra-smooth, reducing friction in the liner and improving feedability, which is critical for soft aluminum wires.

ER4043 wire typically turns a dark gray color after the anodizing process. If color matching is critical for anodized parts, ER5356 is a better choice.

This wire is designed for use with DC+ (Direct Current Electrode Positive) polarity.

This product comes on a 20 lb (9.07 kg) plastic spool.
