OVERVIEW

Master Vertical-Up Stainless Welding

If you have ever fought with stainless flux-core running down the plate or crowning up like a rope in the vertical position, the Kobelco DW-308LP is the solution you've been looking for. This wire is built for the welder who needs to weld out-of-position without sacrificing bead appearance or integrity. It runs smooth, predictable, and clean.

The "LP" stands for positional performance. You can run this wire with either 100% CO2 for deep penetration and cost savings, or a 75/25 Argon/CO2 mix for a smoother arc. In either case, the slag system is designed to hold the puddle in place when you are going vertical-up. When you are done, the slag often curls up and falls off on its own, leaving a shiny, flat bead that requires little to no grinding.

Stop wasting time grinding down convex welds. This 0.045" wire gives you the deposition rate of flux-core with the control you need for pipe welding, tank fabrication, or structural stainless work. It feeds reliably and delivers the consistent Kobelco quality that professional fabricators trust.

FAQ

You can use either 100% CO2 or a mixture of 75% Argon and 25% CO2. The wire is dual-classified for both.

Yes, like most gas-shielded flux-cored wires, it runs on DCEP (Direct Current Electrode Positive).

No, this is a 308L grade wire intended for 304/304L base metals. For 316 stainless, you should use DW-316LP.

It meets AWS A5.22 E308LT1-1 (with 100% CO2) and E308LT1-4 (with 75% Ar / 25% CO2).

Flux-cored stainless wires are generally designed for vertical-up welding due to the slag volume. Vertical-down may lead to slag entrapment.

This product comes on a 28lb (12.7kg) spool.

Yes, knurled drive rolls are recommended for flux-cored wires to ensure positive feeding without crushing the tubular wire.

In Kobelco's nomenclature, 'LP' typically designates the series optimized for positional welding (Low carbon, Positional).
