The magic of Silvaloy 450 lies in its chemistry. With a 45% silver content balanced by copper, zinc, and cadmium, it melts at a significantly lower temperature than cadmium-free alternatives. This means you can get in and out of the joint faster, reducing the risk of burning through thin-walled tubing or damaging sensitive components nearby. The alloy flows like water when it hits its liquidus temperature of 1145°F, penetrating deep into tight joints to create a seal that is often stronger than the base metal itself. It is an excellent choice for joining steel to copper, stainless steel to brass, and many other combinations.
This 5 oz pack features a 1/16" diameter wire coil, which is the perfect size for general purpose torch work. It is easy to manipulate and allows for precise deposition of filler metal, minimizing waste and cleanup time. Because this alloy is free-flowing, it works best with joint clearances between 0.001" and 0.005". Always use a high-quality flux, such as Handy Flux, to ensure proper wetting and adhesion.
