$8,320.00/1000lb drumThe Hobart SDX EM13K is a solid carbon steel wire electrode designed for the Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) process. Conforming to AWS A5.17 classification, this wire features a medium manganese and silicon chemical composition. This specific chemistry acts as a deoxidizer, helping to scavenge impurities and mitigate porosity when welding on dirty or oxidized steels. It is an excellent general-purpose choice for both single-pass and multi-pass welding applications on mild and low-alloy steels.
With a diameter of 5/32 inch (approx. 4.0mm), this wire is capable of carrying high currents, enabling deep penetration and high deposition rates essential for heavy section fabrication. The wire is copper-coated, which not only protects it from corrosion during storage but also enhances current transfer efficiency at the contact jaw. This results in a stable arc and reduced voltage drop, which is critical for maintaining consistent weld parameters over long welds.
When used in conjunction with neutral or active fluxes, the SDX EM13K produces weld metal with good mechanical properties, including respectable impact toughness. It is widely used in the fabrication of structural beams, storage tanks, and heavy machinery. The 1000 lb drum packaging is specifically intended for stationary equipment, beam lines, and column and boom manipulators where continuous welding is required. Welders can expect a fluid puddle and a flat to slightly convex bead profile with excellent slag detachability.
