OVERVIEW

Smooth Running for Marine Alloys

When you are welding pipe for a marine job or repairing a heat exchanger, you need a filler metal that flows smoothly and wets out perfectly. Our Monel 67 (ERCuNi) TIG Rods are the welder's choice for joining copper-nickel alloys. The 3/32" diameter gives you the versatility to handle both root passes on pipe and fill passes on thicker plate, offering excellent puddle control without the sluggishness found in some lower-grade alloys.

One of the biggest challenges with copper-nickel is avoiding porosity and achieving a clean bead appearance. These rods are formulated to deoxidize the weld pool effectively, resulting in bright, clean deposits that require minimal post-weld cleaning. The arc stability is superb when running on DCEN, allowing you to focus on your travel speed and torch angle rather than fighting the arc. If you are used to welding stainless or steel, you will appreciate the fluidity of this CuNi alloy once the puddle is established.

These rods aren't just for joining matching base metals; they are also excellent for overlay work. If you need to clad a steel flange with a corrosion-resistant layer, ERCuNi is often the go-to spec. The 36-inch length is standard for TIG, giving you plenty of feed before needing to grab a new rod. Packaged in a protective tube, they stay straight and clean in your truck or gang box until you're ready to spark up.

Welding Tips for ERCuNi

  • Cleanliness is Key: Ensure the base metal is completely free of oil, grease, and oxides before welding.
  • Shielding Gas: Use 100% Argon for most applications. For thicker sections, an Argon/Helium mix can help increase penetration.
  • Technique: Maintain a short arc length and keep the hot end of the filler wire within the gas shield to prevent oxidation.

FAQ

Monel 67 falls under the AWS A5.7 classification as ERCuNi.

It is primarily used for welding copper-nickel alloys such as 70/30, 80/20, and 90/10. It can also be used for welding these alloys to Nickel 200 or Monel 400.

100% Argon is the standard shielding gas. For thicker sections requiring more heat, an Argon/Helium mixture can be used.

Yes, ERCuNi is specifically designed for excellent corrosion resistance in seawater and brine environments.

Direct Current Electrode Negative (DCEN) is the standard polarity for TIG welding with copper-nickel rods.

It is not typically used to join steel to steel, but it is frequently used to overlay (clad) steel surfaces to provide corrosion resistance.

These rods are 3/32 inch (approx. 2.4mm) in diameter and 36 inches long.
