OVERVIEW

Technical Overview: Lincoln Fleetweld 35+ E6011

The Lincoln Fleetweld 35+ is a premium AWS E6011 cellulosic stick electrode designed for Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). With a diameter of 2.5mm, this electrode is formulated to provide deep penetration and fast-freezing slag characteristics, making it highly effective for out-of-position welding, particularly vertical-up and overhead. The coating is a high-cellulose potassium type, which generates a high volume of shielding gas to protect the weld pool while providing the digging action necessary to fuse through surface contaminants such as rust, scale, paint, and oil.

Technically, the Fleetweld 35+ distinguishes itself with its enhanced arc stability on Alternating Current (AC). While standard E6011 rods can sometimes be unstable on smaller AC transformers with low open-circuit voltage, the Fleetweld 35+ chemistry is tweaked to maintain a consistent arc in these conditions. It also operates effectively on Direct Current Electrode Positive (DCEP). The fast solidification of the weld metal allows for excellent bead control when bridging gaps or dealing with poor fit-up, a common scenario in maintenance and repair (MRO) applications.

Metallurgically, the deposit offers mechanical properties consistent with the E60XX class, providing a minimum tensile strength of 60,000 psi. The slag system is light and friable, though typical of cellulosic rods, it requires vigorous cleaning. However, the risk of slag inclusion is minimized due to the force of the arc. This electrode is an optimal solution for root passes in pipe welding or general structural fabrication where plate preparation is minimal.

FAQ

The Lincoln Fleetweld 35+ is classified as an AWS E6011 electrode.

Yes, the Fleetweld 35+ is designed with a digging arc that penetrates through rust, paint, and dirt effectively.

This electrode runs well on AC (Alternating Current) and can also be used on DCEP (Direct Current Electrode Positive).

Yes, it is an all-position rod with fast-freezing characteristics, making it excellent for vertical-up and overhead welding.

This specific product has a diameter of 2.5mm, which is approximately 3/32 of an inch.

Yes, Fleetweld 35+ is specifically formulated to maintain a stable arc on welders with low open-circuit voltage (OCV), often found in home workshops.

For a 2.5mm (3/32") E6011, the typical amperage range is between 50 and 85 amps.

E6011 (like Fleetweld 35+) has a digging arc for deep penetration and dirty metal, while E6013 has a softer arc for cleaner metal and sheet metal.
