OVERVIEW

Superior Arc Performance with M1 Metal Core

Step up your welding game with the Techniweld M1 Metal Core Wire, an E70C-6M consumable designed for welders who demand speed, smooth operation, and impeccable bead appearance. If you are tired of the heavy slag cleanup associated with flux-cored wires or the slower deposition rates of solid MIG wire, this .045-inch metal core wire is the perfect middle ground. The "C" in the classification stands for composite metal cored, meaning the tubular wire is filled with metallic powders that stabilize the arc and increase the amount of metal deposited into the joint.

When running the M104515, you will immediately notice the "spray-like" transfer that is characteristic of high-quality metal core wires under mixed gas (75-90% Argon / Balance CO2). The arc is incredibly stable with very low spatter, which keeps your nozzle clean and reduces post-weld grinding. Unlike dual-shield flux core, metal core produces little to no slag—often just small islands of silicon that brush off easily. This makes it exceptional for multi-pass welds on thick structural plate, as you don't have to worry about trapping slag between passes.

This wire excels in the flat and horizontal positions. While it is primarily designed for these positions due to the fluid puddle, experienced operators can use it out-of-position with pulsed MIG power sources. The .045-inch diameter is the industry standard for medium-to-heavy fabrication, offering deep penetration and excellent side-wall fusion, which is critical for passing X-ray or ultrasonic testing. Whether you are welding chassis frames, heavy machinery, or structural beams, the M1 wire provides the wetting action needed to create smooth, professional-looking welds with minimal effort.

Operator Advantages:

  • Minimal Cleanup: Very low spatter and almost no slag to chip.
  • High Speed: Allows for faster travel speeds without sacrificing fusion.
  • Smooth Arc: Soft, stable arc characteristics reduce operator fatigue.
  • Forgiving: Excellent gap-bridging capabilities and wetting action.

FAQ

The M1 E70C-6M wire is designed for use with mixed gases, typically 75% to 90% Argon with the balance being CO2. It is not designed for 100% CO2.

This wire runs on DCEP (Direct Current Electrode Positive), also known as Reverse Polarity.

Standard metal core wire is primarily for Flat and Horizontal positions due to the fluid puddle. However, it can be used out-of-position if you are using a power source with Pulse MIG capabilities.

Metal core wire produces very minimal slag, often appearing as small silicon islands, unlike flux-cored wire which produces a heavy slag covering.

This is a 15kg (approximately 33lb) spool. It typically uses a standard 12-inch diameter spool size compatible with most industrial wire feeders.

When stored in its original moisture-resistant packaging in a dry environment, the wire has a long shelf life. Once opened, it should be used or stored in a dry cabinet to prevent rust.

Yes, metal core wire is excellent for robotics due to its low spatter, minimal slag (reducing cleanup), and high deposition rates.

Knurled or U-groove drive rolls are recommended. Since metal core wire is tubular, V-groove rolls can crush the wire if overtightened, causing feeding issues.
